SkilCheck’s Free Self-Storage Manager Training

free self-storage manager training

While I was at a recent Self-Storage Association conference, I received several comments about our monthly SkilCheck customer roundtables, where we offer free self-storage manager training. Many managers approached me and mentioned that they enjoyed attending them. They said things like, “We love your roundtables!” One individual even shared that they had just attended the last one the day before I left and thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall, the feedback was very positive!

What Is a SkilCheck Roundtable?

Our SkilCheck manager roundtables provide an opportunity to listen to various self-storage sale calls. They allow participants to hear critiques from others, including fellow self-storage managers who may be stricter than we are during SkilCheck evaluations! These managers often focus on the nuances of what’s being said. I appreciate that they listen to the calls and offer their insights.

Self-Storage Manager Training with Actual Managers!

The roundtables are valuable because they allow us to listen to others and receive feedback from multiple self-storage managers who have gone through the SkilCheck evaluation process. They might point out things during the calls like, “This could have been handled differently,” or share their own experiences, saying, “I’ve tried that before, and I’ve done it this way.” This collaborative feedback is very productive, especially since it comes from people who engage with these scenarios daily.

People might pose questions like, “What about this situation?” And suddenly, it feels like a light bulb goes off for some participants, who realize handling things differently would be a good idea.

Occasionally, we encounter feedback that others have shared, including their frustrations and victories. It’s interesting to see how hard some individuals are on themselves, especially when they know they’re being listened to during a call review. They often tend to be tougher critics than their managers, and we appreciate that dynamic.

Learning from one another, listening, and collaborating with peers can be highly beneficial. At a recent conference I attended, one lady mentioned that she took notes during our discussions. She said, “I write some of the stuff down and then try it out to see how it works.” She expressed that these strategies have truly helped her.

Getting this kind of feedback is terrific because it creates a judgment-free environment. No one is feeling pressured, and the atmosphere is enjoyable. It’s not just about having to participate; even if you’re just there to listen or to hear what’s happening, it can be valuable. If you have the time, why not listen to different perspectives? It can be incredibly helpful to gain insights from others.
